As a political outsider, I initially assumed that I could submit the initiative as an individual. Based on this assumption, I submitted a first preliminary draft to the Federal Office for Political Rights. However, it quickly became clear:

Before the collection of signatures may even begin, the law requires an official initiative committee consisting of at least seven and no more than twenty-seven persons. As the initiator, my position is fixed – which meant that at least six additional committed supporters were still required. In the meantime, we are almost complete: only two are still missing.

Whom are we looking for? Not “high-profile figures” for whom health insurance premiums hardly matter. We are looking for people from the middle of society – including sensible politicians – who would also like a Einheits-KrankenKasse for themselves. People with common sense, dedication, resilience, and independence.

Why is this so difficult?

I have been physically impaired for many years and, in addition to my intensive work for the Einheits-KrankenKasse, I have very limited opportunities to establish new personal contacts. Many of my acquaintances are self-employed or hold senior positions and are therefore excluded from the outset due to potential conflicts of interest.

Why “robust and independent”?

Because the names and addresses of all members of the initiative committee must be publicly visible on every signature sheet. Most signatories will hardly notice the small print – but there is a possibility that committee members may be contacted. Whether critical or appreciative: this is part of democratic engagement.

May we count on you as a member of our initiative committee for the Einheits-KrankenKasse?

If you would like to support our idea of a single health insurance fund for everyone, we would be delighted to welcome you to the initiative committee. We are required to conclude a written contract and submit it to the authorities. The best way is to call me directly at 079 300 93 62 (please let it ring for a long time – I will call back if necessary).

As soon as the committee is complete, we will submit the initiative text to the Federal Office. This will be followed by the official translations and the approval of the signature forms. The text will then be published in the Federal Gazette – and our idea will become known to the public.

Then it begins. We are looking forward to it!

First, we will expand our committee with additional members from all language regions. We will form a panel consisting exclusively of quadrilingual members and conduct our meetings primarily online, with subtitles in the respective language.

Do you notice something? Even as a responsible group, we do not just talk about digitalisation – we live it.
