26.2.2026 This invoice from Triemli for the final examination of 23 October 2018 was quite something. Unfortunately, I cannot provide a translation of the copy below. It is based on 24.6 minutes of medical work, measured from door threshold to door threshold. In the first stage of just over five minutes, my wife had to look into three devices that carried out all the necessary measurements. At the same time, these were the most expensive parts of this “journey”: total cost 2 × Fr. 138.74.
The green arrow shows that the first five minutes cost Fr. 16.56. Why not Fr. 16.57 or another amount? When we buy something in a shop, we rarely see a price calculated exactly to the cent – except, for example, at Lidl, where Fr. 16.99 is charged in order not to have to write Fr. 17.–. Calculated per hour, this results in Fr. 200.–. This is significantly more than ordinary entrepreneurs charge for their services, but in return we are dealing with someone who studied several years longer than a car mechanic. Therefore, we accept Fr. 200.– per hour of medical work.
The three red arrows indicate, in my opinion, an inhumane and characterless practice. They appear on every invoice until the end of 2025. This is not working time in the usual sense, but surcharges because the patient is older than 75. I see this as an affront, in a way a penalty because a young doctor has to treat an elderly person. The fact that there are three such surcharges leaves one speechless.
All this was the reason for me to calculate the value of this treatment on the basis of Fr. 200.– per hour. This means: I demanded a reduction from Fr. 532.45 to Fr. 81.45.
