Training of specialists

The training of female and male specialists also becomes a real game changer through the Einheits-KrankenKasse EKK!

In our initiative text, Art. 117 para. 9, the EKK promises that in future, female and male patients will only be treated or operated on by female and male doctors who demonstrably have the necessary experience and specialist competence for the intervention concerned.

But how does the EKK know who possesses these special abilities?

At the beginning, MEDIFACT must rely on the certificates, diplomas, continuing education records and previous activity records uploaded when the person willing to learn registers. Existing patient dossiers and documented treatments can also provide indications of particular experience. But after that, with every service processed by MEDIFACT and entered into the EKK patient dossier, a new learning system quickly comes into being.

MEDIFACT offers every female and male doctor, with one click, the possibility of registering an interest in a specific specialisation — for example in operations on the thyroid gland – see the SRF video. The employer is automatically informed of this registration and can take into account the associated effects on duty planning and operational availability.

If, later on, a concrete case arises in which such an operation is diagnosed and agreed with a service provider through MEDIFACT, MEDIFACT can inform suitable and registered female and male doctors. Whoever responds quickly enough, is available, fulfils the requirements and is admitted by the service provider carrying out the intervention can accompany or perform the intervention as a participating specialist.

Both service providers benefit: the employer of the interested female or male doctor receives a training remuneration, because he releases staff for targeted continuing education. The service provider who makes the deployment possible also receives a training remuneration, because he makes available his infrastructure, his specialist knowledge and his operative experience. The female or male doctor continues to receive the normal monthly salary.

In this way, a practical training system covering all of Switzerland gradually comes into being. Specialisation no longer happens by chance, but where there is a need, where suitable patient situations exist and where MEDIFACT can bring together the right qualified professionals.

Knowing that MEDIFACT transcribes, translates, checks, verifies the plausibility of and links all services of the service providers with the patient dossiers, the EKK can not only remunerate treatments, but also recognise quality, make experience visible and promote targeted continuing education.

For female and male patients, this means greater safety. For female and male doctors, it means better development opportunities. For the EKK, it means lower costs in the long term, because professionally performed interventions cause fewer complications, fewer follow-up treatments and fewer expensive repairs.

MEDIFACT becomes the national hub for quality, experience and specialisation.
